What Sample Agent actually is

A search engine for the sounds you already own. If you make music you have folders full of samples: kicks, loops, vocals, one-shot hits. Finding the right one is the slow part. Sample Agent listens to every file on your drive, so you can ask for a sound and have it in your track seconds later, in the music software you already use (your DAW: FL Studio, Ableton, Logic, whichever it is).

STACK

Hear eight loops together before anything lands in the project

Play a loop, press A, and it joins the Stack: up to eight layers, every one matched to your project tempo and key. Change either while it plays and the layers follow without stopping. Drag loops straight in too: onto empty space to add one, onto a layer to replace that one.

Mute, solo and level each layer, then take it out the way you need: Drag stems hands your DAW one file per layer, Drag mix hands it a single file that sounds exactly like what you just heard.

SEARCH

Find it by sound, not by filename

Type screech and you get actual screeches, even if every last one of them is called “Music Loop 07”. Spell it wrong and you still get them: snair finds your snares, because Sample Agent corrects against the words that exist in your library.

Found one you love? Select it and press S. Sample Agent re-ranks by how close each sample sounds to it, across categories, packs and names, and scores every match. Press ← Back to browsing and you are exactly where you were, filters and all.

LOOP REGION

Drag out only the part you want

Drag across the waveform to mark a section. Loop plays just that part, and dragging it out gives your DAW just that part, already stretched to your tempo and re-pitched to your key. Turn Drag: Rendered off and you get the untouched original instead. Double-click clears it.

ONE-SHOTS

Every loop is also a kit

A loop is a bar or two of music. Open the One-Shots tab and Sample Agent chops it at every hit, so you get the kick, the snare and the hat as separate sounds, each named by note. Click one to hear it. Drag any one of them out on its own. The punch at the start of each hit stays intact, so nothing sounds soft or clipped.

MIDI

Turns your own audio into notes

MIDI is the notes of a melody rather than the recording, so you can put them on any instrument you like and change them freely. When a pack includes MIDI, Sample Agent shows you the notes, moves them into your key and drags them out next to the audio. When a pack includes none, Generate MIDI works the notes out from the audio itself.

That part is still in beta, and we would rather say so than let you find out. It is sharpest on basslines and single-note melodies. Chords and drum loops come out rougher and usually need a tidy-up. Every other browser we know of hands you a MIDI library, or nothing at all. None of them turns your audio into notes.

TEMPO & KEY

It doesn’t ask your DAW. It listens.

Tell it your track’s speed and key once, and everything you click plays back at that speed and in that key. Drums keep their punch while it happens. That works everywhere: Mac, Windows, on its own or inside your music software. Loaded as a plugin it doesn’t even ask, it just takes the speed from your project and stays in time with it.

Audio Sync goes one better. Run Sample Agent on its own and it simply listens to your speakers, works out the speed and the key of what it hears, and matches everything to that. Nothing to load, nothing to connect, no settings to line up. It just hears your track. That means it follows any music software, FL Studio included, and it is clever enough to ignore its own sound so it never follows itself.

And it doesn’t care what is making the sound. Put a reference track on Spotify or YouTube and audition your own loops straight over it, in time and in key.

Audio Sync needs macOS 14.2 or newer, or Windows 10 build 20348 or newer, and runs in the standalone app only. You don’t need it inside a DAW, because there the plugin takes the tempo from the host.

Frequently asked questions

Can I try it before buying?
Yes. 7 days, the full version, no card needed. Nothing is crippled or watermarked: it’s the same app you’d buy. Hit Try on macOS or Try on Windows above.
What exactly do I get when I pay?
A licence key, by email, the moment the payment goes through. There is nothing to ship and nothing to wait for. Paste the key into the app you already downloaded for the trial and it turns into the full version on the spot. This is software: a standalone app plus a VST3 and AU plugin. The box and the desktop unit in the photos are renders, not hardware.
Is it a subscription?
No. You pay once and the key never expires. No renewals, no credits, no “your licence has lapsed” email two years from now.
What if it doesn’t work out?
That’s exactly what the 7 free days are for, and we mean it: install it, point it at your real library, and put it through a proper session or two before you spend anything. Nothing is held back during the trial, so what you test is what you buy. If something is broken, or it doesn’t do what this page says it does, write to info@sample.agency and we’ll sort it out with you. Once a key has been issued we can’t take it back. A licence key is digital goods, and that is exactly why the trial is a full one.
Is there a Windows version?
Yes, and it is the same app. Windows 10 or newer, 64-bit. The download is a zip: unpack it and run Sample Agent Setup.exe, which installs the standalone app and puts the VST3 where every DAW looks. Run the installer from the unpacked folder rather than from inside the zip. The one thing Windows doesn’t get is the AU plugin, because AU is an Apple format. VST3 covers Windows DAWs.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 10.15 or newer, with one universal build for Apple silicon and Intel. Windows 10 or newer, 64-bit. A few things need more: on macOS the VST3 and AU plugin need 11+, and so does searching by sound (Find Similar still works below that, just on plain audio analysis). Audio Sync needs macOS 14.2+ or Windows 10 build 20348+, and runs in the standalone app only.
How many computers can I use it on?
Two at the same time: your studio machine and your laptop, for example. Running the standalone and the plugin on the same computer counts as one, not two. Mac and PC can share the same key.
What if I get a new computer?
Deactivate it in the app on the old machine, then activate on the new one. Old machine dead or sold? Enter your key on the new one and choose Move licence here. No email to us needed.
Do I get updates?
Yes. Updates are included, no extra charge. Your key keeps working.
Do I have to tag or organise my library first?
No. Point it at your folders once. It reads the name, the tempo, the key and the actual sound of every file, and sorts everything on its own. You never label a thing.
How big a library can it handle?
Hundreds of thousands of files without breaking a sweat. It scans once, then opens straight from a cached index while it quietly checks in the background for anything you’ve added or removed, so start-up stays fast however big the folder gets.
Which file formats does it read?
WAV, AIFF, MP3, FLAC and OGG on both platforms, plus M4A, AAC, ALAC and CAF on macOS, where the system decodes them for us. MIDI files sitting next to a loop are picked up as its companion, so the notes drag out with the audio.
Can my library live on an external drive? And do my favourites survive a reinstall?
Yes to both, and that’s how most big libraries live anyway. Point it at a folder on an external SSD and it works the same. Scanning is just as fast as the drive is. Favourites, colour labels, saved searches, corrected tempos and keys are all kept separately from your audio files, so reinstalling the app doesn’t touch them.
Which DAW does it work with?
Any DAW that loads VST3 or AU plugins: Ableton, FL Studio, Logic, Cubase, Studio One, Bitwig, Reaper. Pro Tools isn’t supported: it only loads its own AAX format. Sample Agent runs as a standalone app and as a plugin, and you drag audio and MIDI from it straight into your project. Loaded as a plugin it reads the tempo straight off the host transport, so previews are in your project’s tempo without you setting anything.
What exactly can Audio Sync listen to?
Anything your computer is playing. Your DAW, any DAW, FL Studio included, but also a reference track on Spotify or YouTube: it works out the tempo and the key and locks your previews to both, so you can audition loops straight over whatever is on. It ignores Sample Agent’s own preview, so it never chases itself. Audio Sync needs macOS 14.2 or newer, or Windows 10 build 20348 or newer, and works in the standalone app only. You don’t need it inside a DAW, because there the plugin takes the tempo from the host.
How good is the MIDI generation?
If the pack ships MIDI, Sample Agent just shows it, and that is exact. Generate MIDI is for when it doesn’t: it writes MIDI from the audio and is still in beta. It’s sharpest on basslines and single-note melodies; chords and drum loops come out rougher and usually need a tidy-up. Try it on your own packs during the 7-day trial and see.
Do you upload my samples anywhere?
No. Not one file, not one filename, not a fingerprint of either. The index, the search and the sound analysis all run on your machine, and nothing about your library is sent to us or to anyone else.
Is the app in my language?
Yes. The app’s interface is in English, the only language it speaks for now.
